Yesterday, our Embassy was invited, with all the Diplomatic Corp, to the celebration of the 15th Anniversary of Romania accession to the EU. The event took place in the Parliament in the presence of both Chambers, the Government, the representatives of all different faiths and the French Foreign Minister, HE Jean-Yves Le Drian who gave the opening remarks.
Christian values were often referred to in several speeches as well as the Sovereignty of each European State. Such Sovereignty, despite full is also functional to the European system of values: Democracy, rule of law, tolerance, common prosperity and defence. It was interesting to note how, even at EU level, the concept of Sovereignty, although full and unconditional is considered functional to a shared set of values.
It was a very important event that draw the attention to the implications of current tensions in Europe in these days, the need to be Sovereign but united and above all it implicitly echoed the recent words of the Holy Father to prey for peace and unity of all Christians.
