On 26 May 2025, the Greek-Catholic Bishop of Bucharest, Mihai Cătălin Frățilă, with the support of HE Ciprian-Vasile Olinici, the State Secretary for Religious Affairs in the Romanian Government, organised a concert in honour of Cardinal Iuliu Hossu.
Held at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra performed under the direction of conductor Constantin Adrian Grigore. The event was attended by political leaders, diplomats, religious leaders of all Christian confessions, as well as members of the public.
Following a brief documentary on the life, suffering, and final beatification of Cardinal Hossu, the Apostolic Nuncio to Romania, HE The Most Reverend Giampiero Gloder, HE Bishop Mihai Frățilă, and State Secretary Olinici each stressed the important historic role of Cardinal Hossu in the aftermath of World War One.
Born on 30 January 1885 in the village of Milaș, Cluj County, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Cardinal Iuliu Hossu was a Romanian Greek-Catholic prelate, who served as the Bishop of Cluj-Gherla. He was incarcerated by the communist regime in Romania in October 1948 and passed away while still in detention on 28 May 1970. On 2 June 2019, on the Libertății Field in Blaj, during a solemn liturgy, Pope Francis beatified seven Romanian Greek-Catholic bishops, including Cardinal Hossu.
