On 1 July 2026, the Minister Counselor of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Romania, Maria Gabriella Gambacurta, attended the celebration of Canada Day held at the historic Casa Doina restaurant in Bucharest.

Following the performance of the national anthems, the event was formally opened by H.E. Gavin Buchan, Ambassador of Canada to Romania. His address was followed by remarks from H.E. Oana-Silvia Țoiu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania.

Both speeches underscored the excellent bilateral relations and strong cooperation between Canada and Romania.

On this occasion, Ambassador Buchan also announced the conclusion of his diplomatic mission in Romania and expressed his sincere gratitude to the Romanian authorities for their support and collaboration throughout his tenure.

The Sovereign Order of Malta maintains a vibrant association of Knights and Dames in Canada. While actively engaged in charitable initiatives at national level, its members also contribute alongside the Order’s Romanian Relief Corps (Serviciul de Ajutor Maltez în România – SAMR), particularly in supporting populations affected by the war in Ukraine
