On 28 October, the Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci, attended the Czech National Day celebration at Diplomatic Club in Bucharest.
The event was opened by the Czech Ambassador to Romania, HE Martin Košatka. Ambassador Košatka’s speech was followed by those from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Romania, HE Cătălin Predoiu, and State Secretary and National Coordinator for Romania’s OECD Accession Process, HE Luca Niculescu. In all of the speeches, the excellent relations between the two European countries were highlighted, particularly in supporting Romania’s full accession to Schengen and the OECD.*
Ambassador Musneci, who attended the event with his wife Marialaura, commented, “It is a once again a great pleasure to join the Czech National Day, and only days after the visit of Ambassador Košatka to our Embassy.” He added, “Tonight proved to be another excellent opportunity to share views on the role of our Order, both in Romania and in Czechia, working in support of those in need in both countries — with particular attention being paid to the refugees from Ukraine.”
The Czech National Holiday on 28 October commemorates the anniversary of the creation of the first independent Czechoslovak state in 1918. This date is thus associated with the achievement of independence for Czech and Slovak citizens.
*Romania became an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) accession candidate in 2022. The roadmap for the country’s accession process was formally adopted at the OECD Council at Ministerial level in June 2022.
