Today, 24 February 2025, solemnly marks the third anniversary of the war against Ukraine.
In immediate response to the full-scale invasion, the Order of Malta Romania has been consistently providing humanitarian support to Ukrainian civilians affected by the war. These efforts have been led by the Order’s National Relief Corps in Romania—Serviciul de Ajutor Maltez în România (SAMR)—and supported by the Romanian Association (AROM) and the Embassy to Romania. The Order of Malta more broadly, including through Malteser International and the Ukrainian Malteser, has been providing humanitarian and psychosocial support to millions of Ukrainians across the country.
Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci KM, stated, “Today, marks a dark anniversary, where we take time to once again remember all of the souls lost and suffering due to this war. To date, the official number of Ukrainian war-dead is cited to be over 46,000, with Russia likely having lost a comparable number, and the suffering of civilians and loss of property across Ukraine beyond these numbers is immeasurable. To quote Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Service of Charity at the Vatican, ‘The suffering of Ukrainians really reaches to heaven’.”
Ambassador Musneci added, “The Order of Malta Romania is steadfast in its commitment to the Ukraine Response—which has become the largest humanitarian operation of the Order since World War Two. As the full-scale war against Ukraine has now entered its fourth year, the Order in Romania and around the globe remains wholeheartedly committed to standing-by our partners, and serving those in need.”
