The Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Romania wishes everyone a blessed Palm Sunday—which is known as Duminica Floriilor in Romanian.
Palm Sunday is the Christian moveable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter, which is celebrated by the blessing and distribution of palm branches to commemorate Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. On Palm Sunday, palm fronds (or sometimes substitutes, such as willow branches or seasonal flowers) are blessed with holy water in an event called the Blessing of the Palms. A solemn procession of the entire congregation then takes place immediately after the blessing of the palms, called the Palm procession. Following the procession, the Holy Mass includes a reading of the full Passion. Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week, during which Christ was crucified on Friday and resurrected on Sunday.
On the evening of Palm Sunday, Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci, stated, “Today, we celebrate and remember that when Jesus was entering Jerusalem, the crowds took palm branches and went out to meet him, crying ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord’”. Ambassador Musneci added, “On behalf of the Order of Malta in Romania, we wish you and your families a blessed Holy Week ahead.”
