From 19 to 24 October, the Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci, joined the National Relief Corps of the Order of Malta in Romania, Serviciul de Ajutor Maltez în România (SAMR/Maltez), on their latest humanitarian mission to Ukraine.
As part of the Order of Malta’s ongoing humanitarian response to the full-scale war in Ukraine, SAMR took a humanitarian caravan from Romania to Kamianets-Podilskyi and the surrounding villages, joined by volunteers from Canada, United Kingdom and Germany as well as the Romanian team.
At the end of the mission, Ambassador Musneci stated, “These three full days have been spent playing with children, delivering food, talking to people displaced from their homes, and sadly, hearing stories of some who have lost friends, and family, and from those who have their relatives at the front. It is undoubtedly a rollercoaster of emotions that our volunteers have dealt with, and it is inspiring to see them concentrate on the work at hand, and that has made at least some difference for the people we have had the pleasure to meet.” He added, “Our Embassy thanks every volunteer who joined the mission, and in particular to the President and the Secretary General of SAMR, Mihály Dénes and Ferenc Tischler, for their leadership. Last but not least, the Embassy – and the Order as a whole – would like to thank the President of the Kamianets-Podilskyi District Council, Mykhailo Yevstafiyovych Simashkevich (Михайло Євстафійович Сімашкевич), and his team for their continuous support and active collaboration to our activities here.”
