On Saturday 26 April 2025, a solemn Holy Mass was held at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Bucharest for the funeral of His Holiness Pope Francis.

The ceremony was led by the Apostolic Nuncio to Romania, HE Archbishop Giampiero Gloder, and co-celebrated by the Greek Catholic Bishop HE Mihai Frățilă, the Auxiliary Bishop HE Cornel Damian, and the Archbishop Emeritus HE Ioan Robu.

In his homily, Mons. Gloder shared his personal experiences of knowing Pope Francis, along with three of his guiding principles: faith, generosity, and closeness. Mons. Robu, in his remarks, shared his feeling that experiencing an audience with the Pope was like “meeting sainthood on earth.”

The Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci KM, participated in the Mass together with Chief Chaplain of the Romanian Association of the Order of Malta, Father Gabriel Popa, and several Knights and Dames residing in Bucharest, while other Members attended in similar events in Cluj and other churches across Romania.
