Yesterday SAMR inaugurated the new centre in the Parish of St. Antony, Colentina, dedicated to underprivileged children of the area including those coming from the Roma community. The inauguration was organized in the proximity of the Children Romanian National Day 01st of June. The centre was supported to a very large extent by HE Ambassador at large for the Roma issue, Franz Salm. The project also benefit from a substantial contribution by the Italian multinational Prysmian.  The project started from a opportunity identified by the Nunciature and the Embassy 9 months ago. As soon as we obtained support from the Mother Superior of the Franciscan Order of the Holy Hearths and Archbishop Perca who granted a 10 years Free of charge use of the facility, the building underwent a basic restructuring, social workers were recruited and started to be operated since January this year. SAMR led the whole project and transferred expertise developed in our first centre in Bucharest. HE Ambassador Salm immediately saw the potential of the centre in Colentina to become a centre of excellence in Bucharest for after school activities organized by SAMR. The inauguration was preceded by a Holy Mass officiated by Archbishop Aurel Perca where all children joined in together with Ambassador Salm and his wife Barbara, Anca Simu and Ferenc Tischler from SAMR and Ambassador Musneci with his wife Marialaura. After the inauguration and a small reception, the children were entertained by well known magician and entertainer “Dodo”.

It was a great afternoon that marks another stage in stepping up our presence in Bucharest. This was possible only thanks to the leadership of Ambassador Franz Salm and the constant collaboration between SAMR and the Embassy.
