Today, 18 February 2025, the Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci KM, and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Romania met Senate President Ilie Bolojan in his role as Interim President of Romania, for the traditional Presidential address and meeting at the beginning of the year.

The Interim President was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Emil Horațiu Hurezeanu, and the Head of the Presidential Chancellery, HE Cristian Diaconescu. In his address, Interim President Bolojan stressed the constitutional correctness of the actions undertaken by Romanian institutions and their continued commitment to “free, democratic, and transparent elections in May.” He also reconfirmed Romania adherence to Euro-Atlantic values and alliances, as well as his determination to facilitate policies aimed at preserving stability and growth of the economic system.

The Dean of the Diplomatic Corp, the Apostolic Nuncio to Romania and the Republic of Moldova, HE Archbishop Giampiero Gloder, in his speech shared the broad concerns of many diplomats regarding the increased tensions in the world, but also the opportunities to bring sustainable peace and stability through dialogue, just, equitable compromise, and sense of responsibility. He also expressed trust in Romanian authorities to continue to foster democracy and sustainable growth, based on the shared values of the international community.

 

Following the meeting, Ambassador Musneci declared, “Both the Interim President and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corp touched, in a balanced but clear way, the topics that animate public debate—both internationally and domestically. They highlighted not only the current difficulties, but also the opportunities and hopes ahead of us.”
