The Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci KM, held a cordial meeting with HE Silviu Vexler, Parliamentary Deputy and President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania.
Their discussion covered the current situation in Romania and the various social and cultural initiatives supporting the Jewish community—where President Vexler is the principal initiator of the declaration of 2025 as the Year dedicated to Cardinal Iuliu Hossu, the Greek-Catholic bishop and one of the key figures of the Great Union of 1918. Imprisoned and tortured under the communist regime, Cardinal Hossu remains a defining figure for Catholicism in Romania.
President Vexler also reflected on commitments expressed during meetings held at the Holy See, including Pope Leo XIV’s confirmation of Pope Francis’s intention to celebrate a Holy Mass in St Peter’s Basilica in honour of Cardinal Hossu.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Musneci stated,
“Interfaith dialogue remains essential in today’s challenging climate. My exchanges with HE Silviu Vexler are always enriching, and I deeply value his dedication to preserving memory, promoting understanding, and strengthening the fabric of Romanian society.”
