On 16 June 2025, the Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci KM, met with HE Adrian Năstase, President of the Titulescu Foundation, former Prime Minister (December 2000 to December 2004) and former Minister of Foreign Affairs (June 1990 to November 1992) of Romania, among other political roles.
In 1991, during his mandate as Romanian Foreign Minister, Mr. Năstase re-established diplomatic relations between Romania and the Sovereign Order of Malta, following the unilateral interruption decided by the communist regime in 1947. He has been a strong advocate of the continued bilateral relations, and as an historian studied the origin of our Order and its presence in the territories of present Romania since the 13th century.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Musneci declared, “It was a pleasure to once again meet with former Prime Minister Năstase, and to reflect on the continued deepening of relations Romania and the Order.” The Ambassador added, “I first met with him in 2001, and have always appreciated his broad geopolitical vision ahead of Romania accession to NATO and the EU. At the beginning of my mandate as Ambassador of our Order in 2019, he also shared with me documents proving his personal commitment to re-establish diplomatic relations in 1991, during his time as Foreign Minister.”
