Her Majesty Margareta of Romania, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, and her husband HRH Prince Radu, hosted the traditional reception of the Diplomatic Corp followed a vin d’honneur at the Royal Palace in Bucharest on 10 December 2024.

The annual event was attended by HRH Princes Sofia; HE Luminița-Teodora Odobescu, Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs; representatives of Government and Parliament; as well as numerous other dignitaries, where the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Apostolic Nuncio to Romania and Moldova, HE Giampiero Gloder, led the delegation of diplomats.

In her speech, Her Majesty, made comment on the need of stability for Romania in this challenging institutional moment and stressed the paramount importance of reconfirming the European and Transatlantic values that—since 1989—guaranteed individual and economic liberties and the growth of society at large. Second, she highlighted that it was crucial electoral processes were as transparent as possible, and that untruths were immediately refuted. Third, she was candid in asking authorities to listen to her “cri de coeur”, to help address inequalities and to help those in society feeling neglected.

In his address, HE Archbishop Gloder, conveyed to Her Majesty his appreciation for her important remarks, and expressed his warm wishes for a blessed Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

After the event, the Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci, who attended the reception with his wife Marialaura, commented: “Her Majesty, as every year, proved her ability to keenly analyse current events, but more importantly the sentiments of the moment, without weighing-in with political opinion.” Ambassador Musneci added, “Solidarity throughout the whole of society is vital in challenging moments. Her Majesty, wisely addressed this and touched on the core issues that Romania is facing today.”
