On 24 November 2025, at the National Bank of Romania, Governor Mugur Isărescu was awarded the Order of Merit of the Jewish Community in Romania, in the grade of Grand Star (Mare Stea), by the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania, HE Deputy Silviu Vexler.
The distinction recognises Governor Isărescu’s longstanding support for the Jewish community throughout his more than thirty years of leadership at the National Bank of Romania.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Government, Parliament, the diplomatic corps, and representatives of civil society.
Following the event, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci KM, stated, “Governor Isărescu is a personality who has helped stabilise Romania’s economy and society for more than three decades. In our twenty years of acquaintance, I have witnessed innumerable times his dedication to developing Romania, fighting poverty, and fostering inclusion—well beyond stabilising the currency and the economy. It was therefore an honour to receive the invitation and to participate in the ceremony.”
