Over the past week, the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Romania took part in several moments of prayer during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2026, observed from 18 to 25 January, was held under the theme ‘One Body, One Spirit, One Hope’ (Ephesians 4:4). This annual global ecumenical initiative invites Christians worldwide to pray for unity, reconciliation, and deeper communion.
In Romania, the week opened with an ecumenical prayer service at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St Joseph and concluded with prayers hosted by the Romanian Orthodox Church at Cașin. Representatives of all major Christian denominations participated, including the Apostolic Nunciature.
In the opening message delivered by the Romanian Orthodox Church, particular emphasis was placed on how the Holy Trinity offers a model for the unity of the Church. Ambassador Roberto Musneci KM, who joined the celebrations, stated, “The message of unity conveyed each year during this week is of particular importance, especially in light of the persecution and discrimination that Christians continue to face all across the globe.” Ambassador Musneci added, “It is always a joy to be able to take part in these moments of prayer.”
